Better late then never...

Two falls ago, I purchased my dream car. A black, 1969 Ford Mustang Convertible. I've only recently decided to start in on this blogging thing, so I figure this is as good a story as any to start things off with. Anyhow back to the car.

When I first decided to buy the car, I never really thought it would actually happen. Prices have been steadily rising on project cars, and Mustang is probably the most common car to work on from the late 60's era. I found this car for a crazy good price, in my opinion. I got the car for under $10k (well under); it runs, it was nearly fully functional, no rust, straight frame, new interior, and a freshly rebuilt transmission. It sat for about 18 months under a cover in my drive way, but now rests in a family garage where I work on it. In that time sitting, I was lucky, just some surface rust on the floor pans in the rear seat (already buffed out, and ready for some porz). Anyhow, I have plans...

My original plan was to make whats called a "resto-mod" car. Basically, the car remains the same, but gets the creature comforts of today's cars. After I started pricing parts and upgrades, I quickly realized that I could do so much more than to just get it running.

The next plan was to make it a sleeper car. That requires quite a bit of money, specifically for the engine. I believe this idea came to me after too many beers in some friend's basement. That friend happens to be a Mustang buff, who had a friend of a friend with a 429 engine in his garage that he had just decided to sell off. I got it for a steal at $600 USD! The engine turned over, was free of rust, and only needed some TLC. At this point, my wife reminded me of my budget, and this plan wouldn't work out.

The current rendition is part resto-mod, and part sleeper. I'm going to keep the 302 engine that came with the car, but will more than likely give it some upgrades to make it more angry. The body work will take the car to a '69 GT look and feel. I do plan on upgrading the creature comforts in the cabin. A nice sound system, power windows and doors, and down the road some power seats.

Anyhow, I think this wraps up the background and future of my baby.
